The Future's Past
What of humanity, if anything, will be remembered? What you do today, is wasted today. Society has taught us to do as we are told, to believe what we are told...and we have fattened ourselves on the lies.

Apparent residences, equally as broken down, covered in ages of the dust of the dead. Their internal organizations always the same, always meticulously laid out in order to surround what a future archeologist might deduce as their god. A commonly black box, with seats arranged around it...the box itself most often found set on a pedestal, which would have placed it above those who congregated around it...a strange god, but a god looking down on its worshippers. From its vantage, this god could survey the inhabitants of the dwelling, dictating its commands to them. Each residence possessed idols of this god, each home signifying full compliance with its wishes. Of course, this god would now be completely dormant...a dark eye staring out into an empty world.

Outside, giant structures, built to make meaningful all the futile efforts of this archaic species, slowly crumbled into oblivion. Their bases covered in shrubs, slowly choking the last vestiges of the human stain. Vines draping down from their heights, personal hygiene items intertwined within the nests of birds and raptors, toys meant to moronically entertain their moronic offspring now crushed and used as bedding for large mammals. Slabs of concrete slashing through the most dense groupings of these structures that still managed to stand against nature. Animals grazing between the litter of the failed.

A slow but definite obliteration...

There would be miniaturizations of these steel skeletons upon the earth below, all of them fashioned to make some manner of noise to placate the silence refused by the ignorant dead, especially their young. Everything shrouded in the embrace of a species that defined all things without purpose. Broken and ever useless idols strewn about, robbed of all power given to them by their former mentally vacant worshippers.

One might feel as if the presence of life and intelligent thought might have once existed here. It would only be an illusion, this would be an easy assumption to make...especially considering that this dead species made this same mistake with the same assumptions...with clearly obvious results. They created their own illusions and lies to control the masses...and then their lies and illusions lived so long that they became true. They held themselves to be higher than their nature, and while this can be a desired trait in higher beings, these were not higher beings. These were children who shrouded themselves in empty gods of science and conformity, gods of mindless entertainment to lull them to sleep and forget the pain of the world rather than face it. Gods created by the hands of the worshippers, specifically to control themselves. This they called freedom.
